Hat-trick for North East England at the World Travel Awards

The TV campaign promoting North East England was been named “World’s Leading Travel Destination Television Commercial” at the World Travel Awards 2007.

It was the third year running that the region has taken home a prestigious World Travel Award.

The TV advert, produced by Regional Development Agency One NorthEast beat off competition from 9 other countries and including: Australian Tourist Commission, Tourism Ireland and the New Zealand Tourist Board.

The ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ Regional Image Campaign was named “World’s Leading Destination Marketing Campaign” in 2006 and 2007.

Following this success the region was chosen to host the first-ever World Travel Awards Europe and Green Awards in October this year.

The award was the latest achievement for the region this year and follows praise from influential travel guide, Lonely Planet Bluelist which named North East England one of the top 30 must-see destinations in the world.

Featured in the guide’s Go List North East England was described as “the most exciting, beautiful and friendly region in the whole of England”.

Stacy Hall, Director of Communications and Tourism at One NorthEast said: “This is a fantastic achievement and a real credit to everyone in North East England who has contributed to the region’s visitor economy.

“The biggest satisfaction of winning accolades, whether it is the World Travel Awards or being named in the Lonely Planet’s Blue list is the increased global exposure it gives North East England as a destination to attract more visitors.”
